In Conversation With Our New Web Designer: Kasia Smith
We’re excited to welcome a new member to our team! Meet Kasia Smith, who recently joined our design team. Evie sat down with Kasia to learn more about her background, how she feels transferring from print to digital, and her favourite thing about the mighty Leeds!
How do you feel about starting at Dream Big Digital?
I’m really excited! It’s a new challenge for me, and I’m super excited to take that on, and to become part of the team and to grow with the business.
What role are you coming from?
I have worked in print design for a while, designing brochures and catalogues, mainly offline design. I’ve also done some POS, store designs.
When I plan, I'm quite old-fashioned and handwrite it all in my notebook!
How did you get into design?
I always wanted to be a designer, but I didn’t think it was a ‘real job’ when I was a child! I really enjoyed the communication side of it, so I decided to go to university as a mature student after working in administration for many years.
What do you enjoy the most about web design?
How responsive it can be, and that it can be measured by its effectiveness, as well as the fact that it’s on trend and very ‘now’, and how it can change day-to-day.
How do you usually first approach a design project?
I read the brief a few times, and then plan. I also do a lot of research on the brand itself and trends. When I plan, I’m quite old fashioned and handwrite it all in my notebook!
I like how there’s a different variety of work, and how I can continue my work in the fashion industry, as well as step into the food and drink industry.
How do you feel about working with a mix of clients?
I find it really exciting! I like how there’s a different variety of work, and how I can continue my work in the fashion industry, as well as step into the food and drink industry.
What is your favourite thing about Leeds?
The people, it has to be the people. Everyone is very friendly, I like how you can make a friend at a bus stop or at your weekly food shop. I love the fact that it’s got a bit of everything, it’s not too big or too small, and you’re only a short drive from the beautiful countryside or seasides.
